About us
Racing Victoria Group (RVG) is one of Australia’s leading sporting organisations, and the independent governing body of thoroughbred racing in Victoria. We develop, promote and manage the conduct of the racing of thoroughbred horses in Victoria to safeguard its integrity.
RVG is seeking a hands-on and technically capable Cyber Security Engineer to support the delivery and ongoing uplift of our cyber security capability across cloud, on-premises, SaaS and approved AI-enabled technology environments.
Reporting to the Head of Platforms & Cyber Security, this role plays an important part in strengthening Racing Victoria’s security posture, supporting incident response, managing vulnerabilities and embedding secure practices into day-to-day technology operations and project delivery.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys practical, technical cyber security work, while also partnering with technology and business teams to deliver secure, pragmatic and commercially sensible outcomes.
About the role
As the Cyber Security Engineer, you will work closely with Platform Services, Engineering, Delivery and business stakeholders to support security operations, risk management and security by design activities.
You will be responsible for operating and improving security controls, monitoring alerts, supporting investigations, tracking remediation activities and contributing to cyber security governance, reporting and documentation. You will also support the secure assessment and adoption of approved AI-enabled tools, with a focus on data protection, access control and safe-use practices.
In this role, you will:
- Operate, monitor and continuously improve security controls, logging, alerting and response processes.
- Identify, assess, prioritise and support remediation of vulnerabilities, configuration weaknesses and technical security risks.
- Investigate security alerts and incidents, support containment and remediation activities, and contribute to post-incident reviews.
- Develop, tune and maintain security alerts, detection rules and investigation workflows.
- Provide practical security input into technology changes, projects, technical designs and operational processes.
- Support secure review and adoption of approved AI-enabled services and tools.
- Maintain documentation for security controls, procedures, runbooks, assessments and operational processes.
- Prepare reports, dashboards and summaries to support vulnerability management, risk review, assurance and performance tracking.
- Work collaboratively with technology and business teams to deliver secure and practical outcomes.
- Participate in after-hours response for critical security incidents and agreed on-call arrangements where required.
About you
You will bring experience in a cyber security, information security or security engineering role, with exposure to security operations, incident response, vulnerability management and/or technical risk assessment.
You will also have hands-on experience supporting and improving security controls across cloud, on-premises and SaaS environments, including secure configuration, access controls, patching, remediation activities and security tool administration.
You will ideally have:
- Experience with security monitoring, detection tuning, investigation workflows and incident response processes.
- Working knowledge of enterprise security concepts, including identity, endpoint, network, logging, alerting and data protection controls.
- Experience with cloud and productivity platforms such as AWS, Azure and Microsoft 365.
- An understanding of AI security risks, including data leakage, insecure integrations, access control weaknesses and over-permissioned access.
- Strong analytical, communication and documentation skills.
- The ability to explain technical security issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with technology teams and relevant stakeholders.
Relevant cyber security or cloud security certifications, as well as experience assessing AI-enabled SaaS, productivity or coding-assistant tools from a security, privacy, data protection or governance perspective, will be highly regarded.
If there are areas that you are unable to ‘tick’ in the above, we would still like to hear from you. As part of your cover letter outline how you might address some of the gaps.
