Sicona is seeking a hands-on Process Engineer to join our team at our Wollongong Pilot Plant. This role is a full-time, permanent position based in Wollongong, NSW (postcode 2500), working within Sicona’s Pilot Plant facility. As an entry level position, the candidate will be appropriately trained and supervised to operate within the Plant. You’ll contribute to Sicona’s long-term objective to deliver high performance battery materials at mass market scale, without costing the earth.
Responsibilities
Contribute to Sicona’s long-term objective to deliver high performance battery materials at mass market scale, without costing the earth, by applying process engineering principles to design, analyse and optimise process systems supporting the scale-up of advanced battery materials manufacturing.
- Supporting day-to-day operations and maintenance schedules as part of the engineering operations team.
- Monitoring, adjusting and operating assets at operational sites to meet KPIs.
- Support the design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of current and / or new facilities, as well as turnaround and inspection activities (T&I).
- Identification of faults through the use of fault-finding techniques followed by troubleshooting and rectification of problems.
- Contributing to and enhancing continuous improvement initiatives for safety systems.
- Working in a professional, timely and safe manner following all Sicona and NSW - WHS standards and procedures.
- Identification, classification, handling and disposal of chemical waste/chemicals according to Sicona’s safety protocols throughout the production process.
- Reporting incidents, hazards and near misses according to procedures, including conducting investigations as directed by the line manager.
- Writing of in-depth reports & analysis of operational output reports, providing recommendations & actions and ensuring approved recommendations and actions are implemented or managed.
- Assist with raw material and final product inventory sample collections
- Play a key role in the execution of project management activities and planning for projects as required. This includes managing relationships with various stakeholders and suppliers, evaluation of RFQs/RFPs, review of technical bids, and overseeing deliverables to align with project timelines and budgets
- Support preventative and predictive maintenance programs, including maintenance planning and scheduling.
- Contribute to project planning and execution by contractor coordination, proposal evaluation and deliverable monitoring.
- Draft 2D and 3D models of equipment, spare parts and plot plans of facilities using the AutoCAD suite
- Assist with raw material and final product inventory sample collections
- Live and breathe our safety-first culture—reporting hazards, near misses, and following WHS, HAZOPs, and risk assessments. Additionally conduct investigations where directed by the line manager and implement rectifications where applicable.
What You will need to Succeed:
- Bachelor’s or higher degree qualification in Chemical, Process, Electrical, Mechanical or other related Engineering field.
- A “solution mindset” and able to manage varying tasks with often changing and competing priorities.
- Familiarity with PFDs, and P&IDs, HAZOP analysis, troubleshooting procedure.
- A team player attitude who can also take initiative independently.
- Adaptable mindset, and ability to adjust on the fly. Priorities change. You roll with it.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills together with sound writing skills for reports and proposals.
- A drive to learn, innovate, improve, and be part of something meaningful.
- Strong communication skills and comfort with digital tools like MS Office
