Umwelt is looking to appoint an experienced Principal Flood Modeller to join our team, as we continue to grow and expand our Water Services group.
About the Role
This role will see you independently delivering high quality surface water assessments and flood modelling, while driving continuous improvement of processes and systems in collaboration with the Surface Water Lead and Water Services Manager.
As a principal member of the team, you will be responsible for delivering technical work to scope, schedule, and budget, strengthening client relationships, identifying new project opportunities and building your professional standing in the industry. You will also play a key role in supporting and mentoring junior modellers, helping them develop their skills and capabilities, while effectively managing projects, budgets, timeframes, and resources to ensure successful outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership through the delivery of flood/surface water modelling projects, and support the growth and success of water modelling
- Eagerness to innovate and establish efficient and effective modelling systems and processes in collaboration with the groundwater modelling team
- Demonstrate and deliver on technically accurate flood/surface water modelling, analysis and reporting
- Prepare high quality technical work as per the scope and timeframes, as well as developing innovative solutions for clients
- Manage projects from proposal to delivery, including team coordination, client relationships, and oversight of scope, budget, and schedules
- Provide positive leadership and guidance to junior staff, fostering a collaborative, productive and fun work environment
About You:
- Degree qualifications in Engineering or a similar degree
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in water/environmental consulting
- Expertise with water modelling software (i.e. WBNM, XP-Rafts, RORB, URBS, Tuflow, HEC-RAS) and application of ARR (Australian Rainfall and Runoff) 2019
- Experience in visualisation and GIS software (i.e. GlobalMapper, AutoCAD, QGIS, ArcGIS)
- Preferred NER (National Engineers Register), Registered Professional Engineer (RPEQ) or working towards obtaining these registrations
- Strong leadership with a people focus, thriving in a fun, friendly environment that values work-life balance, while delivering innovative, high-quality technical work
- Strong analytical and problem-solving, and project management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely
- Extensive knowledge and experience within the hydrologic technical field
