With a strong pipeline of major projects across the mining, infrastructure, ports and construction sectors, we're looking for a commercially astute Business Development Manager to identify new opportunities, build lasting client partnerships, and help shape the strategic direction of our Engineering business.

About the Role
Reporting to senior leadership, you'll be responsible for identifying, developing and securing new business opportunities while strengthening existing client relationships across key industries.
You'll work closely with Estimating, Operations and the Bids & Proposals team to position Alfabs for success, ensuring opportunities are strategically qualified, commercially viable and successfully transitioned into project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and secure new business opportunities across targeted sectors and regions

Build and manage a sustainable pipeline aligned with strategic growth objectives

Develop and execute business development and client engagement strategies

Build and maintain long-term relationships with key clients, consultants and industry stakeholders

Lead early-stage project positioning, opportunity qualification and client engagement

Collaborate with Estimating and Bids & Proposals to develop winning tender strategies and submissions

Support Go/No-Go decisions and commercial assessments

Monitor market trends, competitor activity and emerging opportunities

Represent Alfabs at client meetings, industry events and networking functions

Provide accurate pipeline reporting, forecasting and market intelligence

Ensure successful handover of awarded projects to operational delivery teams
About You
You'll be a commercially driven relationship builder with a proven track record of generating opportunities and winning work within engineering, construction or heavy industry.
You thrive on developing trusted client partnerships, identifying strategic growth opportunities and collaborating across the business to deliver successful outcomes.
You'll Bring
- Demonstrated success in business development, strategic growth or front-end project development within engineering, construction, mining or heavy industry

An established network of industry contacts and strong client relationship management skills

Proven ability to identify, secure and convert opportunities into awarded projects

Sound understanding of tendering processes, procurement models and project delivery methodologies (EPC, D&C and similar)

Strong commercial acumen with experience in contract negotiation and opportunity assessment

Experience working collaboratively with estimating, bid and operational teams to develop winning strategies

Exceptional stakeholder engagement and influencing skills

Experience using CRM systems for opportunity management, forecasting and pipeline reporting

Strategic thinking with the ability to identify market trends and new growth opportunities

Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills
