About SET Health & Fitness
SET Health & Fitness is a growing health-coaching service based on the Mornington Peninsula. We provide in-person and telehealth consultations specialising in athlete health, comprehensive blood pathology analysis, blood glucose monitoring, nutrition, sports science and evidence-based harm-reduction education.
Our specialised athlete health program was established by Jessica Gray following the loss of several friends within the bodybuilding and sporting community.
The program helps athletes—and people using sports supplements or performance-enhancing substances—better understand how their training, nutrition, lifestyle and supplement choices may affect their health internally and externally.
Our purpose is to provide respectful, non-judgemental health screening, education, monitoring and practical support. We want clients to make better-informed decisions while pursuing longevity in both life and sport.
Train with data, not assumptions.
About the Opportunity
We are seeking a knowledgeable, analytical and personable health or sports-science professional to assist Jessica Gray in delivering and expanding SET Health & Fitness’s athlete health and pathology services.
The role requires someone who can look beyond a single pathology result and understand the relationships between different body systems. You will help examine the connections between hormones, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, metabolic markers, organ function, nutrition, training, recovery and supplement use to create a more complete picture of each client’s health.
This position may suit professionals from a range of relevant backgrounds, including:
- General practitioners
- Registered nurses and nurse practitioners
- Exercise physiologists
- Exercise and sports scientists
- Biomedical scientists
- Medical scientists
- Nutrition professionals with advanced pathology knowledge
- Other appropriately qualified health professionals with experience analysing blood pathology
Applicants must be able to analyse and interpret blood pathology as part of their professional knowledge and scope. They must also understand how biomarkers interact and contribute to the biochemical processes involved in normal bodily functioning, health, recovery and physical performance.
The position will initially commence at approximately eight hours per week. As the service grows, there is strong potential for increased hours and progression into a more permanent position.
Part-time, casual and contractor arrangements are available. SET Health is highly flexible regarding working hours, employment structure and remuneration. We will work with the successful applicant to establish an arrangement that suits both parties.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities will be matched to the successful applicant’s qualifications and professional scope and may include:
- Supporting comprehensive athlete health assessments
- Reviewing and interpreting blood pathology results
- Analysing relationships and patterns across multiple biomarkers
- Assessing relevant hormonal, metabolic, nutritional, cardiovascular, liver, kidney, thyroid, inflammatory and haematological markers
- Understanding the significance of vitamins, minerals, enzymes and other substances involved in biochemical and physiological processes
- Connecting pathology findings with symptoms, health history, nutrition, training, recovery, lifestyle and supplement use
- Identifying results or patterns that may require further investigation or referral
- Assisting with blood glucose monitoring and sensor-data analysis
- Helping clients understand how training, nutrition, supplements and performance-enhancing substances may be affecting their health
- Identifying possible signs of overtraining, inadequate recovery, nutritional deficiencies and reduced energy availability
- Assisting with individualised nutrition, supplementation, recovery and lifestyle strategies within professional scope
- Translating complex health and pathology information into clear, practical education for clients
- Collaborating with clients’ general practitioners, specialists, coaches, personal trainers and other healthcare professionals where appropriate
- Supporting ongoing monitoring, follow-up consultations and program development
- Contributing to educational resources, presentations, workshops and industry events
- Building relationships with gym owners, personal trainers, coaches, supplement suppliers and sporting federations
- Promoting the service to athletes and sporting communities that may benefit from health screening and support
- Generating appropriate referrals and developing new client and industry partnerships
- Assisting with the sustainable development and growth of the program
About You
We are looking for someone who combines strong scientific or clinical knowledge with genuine experience or interest in sport and the fitness industry.
You will ideally have:
- A relevant qualification in medicine, nursing, biomedical science, medical science, exercise physiology, exercise and sports science, nutrition, health science or a related discipline
- Current professional registration where required for your discipline
- Demonstrated experience analysing and interpreting blood pathology
- An in-depth understanding of hormones, vitamins, minerals, enzymes and metabolic processes
- The ability to understand relationships between biomarkers rather than reviewing each result in isolation
- Knowledge of physiology, biochemistry, organ function and the chemical processes involved in bodily functioning
- An understanding of how nutrition, training, recovery, medications, supplements and performance-enhancing substances may influence pathology
- Strong clinical or scientific reasoning and problem-solving abilities
- The ability to combine different elements of a client’s health into a meaningful overall picture
- A strong understanding of sports science, nutrition, training, recovery and athlete management
- Current or previous involvement in bodybuilding, strength sports, fitness or another competitive sport, although applicants with strong relevant industry knowledge will also be considered
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- The ability to build genuine rapport and trust with clients
- Confidence discussing sensitive health and performance-related subjects without judgement
- Strong networking, relationship-building, sales and business-development skills
- Confidence communicating with gym owners, coaches, personal trainers, supplement suppliers and sporting organisations
- A commitment to evidence-based practice, client safety, professional boundaries and continued education
- The ability to recognise when a matter falls outside your professional scope and requires referral
- The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team
Recent medical graduates and students nearing completion of a relevant qualification are welcome to apply if they possess strong pathology knowledge and appropriate practical experience.

- Commission or incentives for establishing suitable gym, coaching, sporting or industry partnerships

Final base rates and commission arrangements will depend on the successful applicant’s qualifications, experience, responsibilities and engagement structure. All remuneration and commission terms will be clearly agreed upon before commencement.

- Flexible working hours
