Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed base of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.

What you'll be doing
To provide a high standard of clinical care to paediatric and neonatal inpatients and outpatients at Wollongong Hospital. The Paediatric Advanced Trainee will, under supervision, assess and manage the care of paediatric patients of Wollongong Hospital and within the ISLHD catchment area. Participation in teaching and paediatric team meetings is expected and opportunities to participate in quality assurance or research projects are available.
The Wollongong Paediatric Service is the higher-level referral centre for paediatric care in ISLHD and includes a Paediatric Ward (20 beds), Neonatal Unit (12 beds) accepting deliveries of babies 32 weeks and over, the Paediatric Assessment Unit and Neonatal Hospital in the Home service.
Wollongong Paediatrics has a 24 hour junior medical officer workforce including six paediatric trainees and seven residents (SRMOs and PGY2 RMOs). Paediatric consultants and fellows are available for support on site within business hours and on call outside of business hours.
The Paediatric Advanced Trainee is a senior member of the Junior Medical Staff within a clinical team. In matters
relating directly to patient care, he/she is responsible to the Paediatrician in charge of the patient's care and the Fellow
(s). He/she is responsible for supervision and teaching of Junior Medical Staff on their clinical team, including medical
students.
This position is particularly suited to trainees who can work independently managing neonatal and paediatric patients with off-site supervision from consultants.
