What you'll be doing
The MNCHD Youth Mental Health Initiative is a multidisciplinary service providing enhanced specialist care for young people aged from 12- 24 (up to the age of 2 presenting to the Coffs Harbour headspace and to the Local Health District with moderate to severe mental health needs but not meeting the threshold for MNCLHD community CAMHS or adult mental health services.
Within this cohort the Mental Health Clinician will deliver quality clinical care within the CAMHS clinical governance structure, this service will have a particular focus on young people with other moderate to severe mental health concerns requiring enhanced specialist, multidisciplinary, and systemic intervention.
About You
You are a skilled and compassionate mental health clinician with recognised qualifications in social work, occupational therapy, counselling, psychology, nursing, or a related discipline, supported by experience working with children, young people, and families experiencing complex mental health challenges. You are committed to delivering recovery-oriented, evidence-based care and have demonstrated expertise in mental health triage, assessment, care planning, treatment, review, and discharge planning for young people with acute and complex presentations.
Drawing on advanced clinical reasoning and professional judgement, you are confident managing complex clinical situations and making timely decisions that support safe, effective, and person-centred care. Your strong understanding of the NSW Mental Health Act, Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) legislation, National Mental Health Standards, and contemporary best practice principles ensures your practice is informed, ethical, and responsive to the needs of vulnerable young people and their families.
You are recognised for your ability to build trust and engage effectively with consumers, carers, multidisciplinary teams, and community service partners. Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills enable you to foster collaborative relationships, advocate for client needs, and contribute to coordinated care across a range of health and community settings.
Highly organised and adaptable, you are proficient in the use of clinical information systems, data management platforms, and Microsoft Office applications to support accurate documentation, reporting, and service delivery. With a commitment to achieving positive outcomes for young people, you bring professionalism, resilience, and a genuine passion for mental health care, together with the flexibility to travel as required to support service needs across the region.
