McMahon Services is looking for an experienced Fixed Plant Mechanical Fitter to join our team in Darwin.
This is a permanent, locally based opportunity offering a 40-hour working week with minimal overtime, making it a great option for an experienced tradesperson looking for interesting work while still having time to enjoy life outside of work.
You’ll complete routine planned maintenance inspections and documentation, fault-finding and repairs on a diverse range of fixed plant and marine infrastructure, including wharves, jetties, winches, gearboxes and associated equipment.
Wharves and Jetties maintenance experience is highly regarded, but it isn’t essential.

About the Role
As Mechanical Fitter, you’ll inspect, carry out and document planned maintenance activities in line with OEM requirements and scheduled maintenance programmes.
Your work will include maintaining fixed plant and marine assets, identifying faults and completing preventative maintenance to help ensure equipment remains safe, reliable and operational.
You’ll work across assets including large winches and winch cables, gearboxes, motor couplings, fender systems, gangways, mooring equipment and other mechanical infrastructure.
What You’ll Do
- Complete planned and preventative maintenance in line with OEM manuals and maintenance schedules.
- Service and maintain large winches, cables, gearboxes, motor couplings and fixed plant.
- Inspect and maintain marine infrastructure, including wharves and jetties.
- Carry out routine inspections of sliding fender systems, manual and powered winching systems, gangways, mooring bollards, rubbing strips and associated equipment.
- Assist with PRV recertification and maintenance activities.
- Undertake mechanical fault-finding and report maintenance requirements.
- Complete maintenance records and supporting documentation.
- Work safely within JSEA/SWMS, pre-task assessment, permit-to-work and isolation requirements.
- Comply with applicable Defence and maritime security requirements.
What You’ll Bring
- Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade, Mechanical Fitter trade qualification or equivalent.
- Experience maintaining fixed plant, fixed platforms and walkways or similar industrial assets.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and fault-finding capability.
- Basic understanding of hydraulic systems.
- Strong commitment to safe work practices.
- Basic computer skills, including email, Word and Excel.
- Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical.
Due to site access requirements, applicants must be Australian Citizens and capable of obtaining a Defence Common Access Card (DCAC) and Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC).
What Will Set You Apart

- Forklift licence.
- Elevating Work Platform (EWP) licence.
- Coxswain Grade 3.
