In this role, you'll:
Be responsible for implementing and supporting the delivery of functional Work Health & Safety (WH&S) management across an Operational business division. The role contributes to the ongoing maintenance of risk management processes by assisting in the implementation of safety policies, protocols, and procedures.
Additionally, the role supports the coordination and delivery of safety policy training, across project activities, on behalf of the NSW State Government (ensuring compliance with the Rail Safety National Law/Work Health and Safety Act/Work Health and Safety Regulations/Heavy Vehicle National Law, and other applicable codes of practice).
In this role, you will support the development and implementation of health and safety management systems, contributing to the design of policies and procedures, and assisting in initiatives focused on psychosocial risk management and musculoskeletal injury prevention.
Duties & responsibilities will include (not limited to):
Assurance & Compliance: Delivering assurance and compliance activities for the CG Operational Management Branch, including the implementation of the WHS assurance plan, conducting audits, inspections, and risk assessments to support continuous improvement
Risk Management Support: Partnering with stakeholders to identify, assess, and manage critical risk hazards (e.g. working around traffic, high‑potential trauma, and heavy vehicle operations), ensuring compliance
Ad Hoc & Emerging Priorities: Providing responsive support for emerging safety matters, including incident investigations, management of urgent risks, and timely guidance to stakeholders on WHS queries.
This role reports into the Senior Manager for WH&S.

About you
For you to be successful within this role you should meet with all, or most of the following criteria:
Circa 3-5 years' experience in a similar WH&S role, especially if you have been involved with implementation, as opposed to maintaining
A professional qualification, and/or certification within health & safety
Strong understanding of traffic management, as well as strong understanding of the relevant standards
Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and build effective relationships. You can bring a proactive, energetic approach, and a genuine passion for driving meaningful safety improvements
Full driver's license (there will be some travel involved in this role)
Nice to Haves:
Applicants with a background in health and safety, injury management, or occupational health disciplines, such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, or nursing are strongly encouraged to apply.

This is a permanent flexible hybrid role - 50% of your time will be office based from our offices in Newcastle/regional location(s). This role supports regional teams, so there is travel required (travel is viewed as office based time, 3-4 days a month). Dependant on your experience and skill sets this role will pay anywhere between $141,678.00 - $158,677.00 + super.
