This role combines cooking, kitchen hand, and hospitality duties. You may be preparing homestyle meals, assisting with plating and meal service, maintaining a clean and safe kitchen, or supporting a positive dining experience for residents.
This role is best suited to someone who enjoys variety, works well in a team, and is confident working across both AM and PM shifts in a residential aged care environment.
Alzheimer’s Queensland (AQ) is seeking a flexible and experienced Cook / Hospitality Assistant to join our team at Garden City Aged Care Services on a casual basis.
This is a unique dual-skilled role where you'll work across both kitchen and hospitality functions depending on operational requirements. Whether you're preparing nutritious meals, assisting with meal service, maintaining a clean and safe kitchen, or creating a welcoming dining experience, you'll play an important role in supporting the health, wellbeing, and quality of life of our residents.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, works well in a team, and is passionate about providing excellent service within a residential aged care environment.
Shift Times
- Hospitality assistant shifts 06:00 AM -14:00
- Cook shifts 05:00 AM -13:00 and 11:00 AM- 19:00
Applicants must be flexible to cover AM /PM weekday shifts as required.
Weekend-only availability is not suitable for this role.
Salary: Competitive hourly rate + 12% superannuation + salary packaging.
- Assist with meal preparation, plating, and serving residents.
- Deliver meals to dining areas or residents’ rooms in a timely manner.
- Support a welcoming and positive dining experience for residents.
- Clean and sanitise dining areas before and after meal service.
- Wash crockery, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
- Assist with general kitchen cleaning and hygiene tasks.
- Support laundry, housekeeping, and general hospitality duties as required.
- Greet and assist residents, visitors, and staff in a friendly and professional manner.
- Prepare and cook nutritious homestyle meals in line with planned menus.
- Cook meals at scale for residents in a residential aged care setting.
- Ensure meals meet dietary needs, including allergies and texture-modified requirements.
- Maintain safe food handling, hygiene, and infection control standards.
- Support timely meal service and presentation.
- Follow food safety procedures, cleaning schedules, and kitchen compliance requirements.
- Work with kitchen and care teams to support residents’ health and wellbeing.
- Must have full Australian working rights with no restrictions.
- This role is not suitable for applicants with limited working hours or visa restrictions.
- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or demonstrated commercial cooking experience.
- Food Safety Certificate or demonstrated food safety knowledge.
- Experience working as a Cook, Kitchen Hand, Food Services Assistant, or Hospitality Assistant.
- Experience in aged care, healthcare, or high-volume commercial kitchens is highly regarded.
- Experience preparing texture-modified meals is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene, and infection control practices.
- Friendly, reliable, and a positive team player who enjoys working with older people.
- Excellent communication skills and a commitment to high-quality service.
- Must be available to work early morning shifts (5:00am or 6:00am starts), afternoon shifts, weekdays, and every second weekend.
- Current National Police Check and relevant vaccinations.
