Primary objective
To manage Operating Theatre bookings and waitlist, promoting effective theatre utilisation and patient focused service.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. To work within the Northern Territory Health Service waiting time and Elective Surgery Treatment Service Policy and
guidelines.
2. In Consultation with medical staff, manage the scheduling of patients for elective surgery.
3. Screen and prioritise verbal and written communication and respond in an appropriate manner.
4. Arrange preadmission appointments and advise patients in writing, telephone and face to face of all admission details
and cancellations.
5. Ensure regular ongoing clerical audits of the waitlist.
6. Liaise with bed management regarding bed allocations or cancellations of admissions.
7. Liaise with medical staff regarding changes to theatre lists.
8. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality safe and services and workplaces.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Sound computing, data entry and organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise and complete numerous
administrative tasks concurrently and within established timeframes.
2. Ability to communicate effectively with staff, patients and members of the public from a diversity of cultures n a
professional and sensitive manner.
3. Demonstrated effective interpersonal communication and organisational skills.
4. High degree of honesty and integrity with a proven ability to exercise confidentiality, initiative and discretion while
providing a quality focused service in a calm, efficient and mature manner.
5. High level of motivation and ability to work independently at times with minimal supervision, in a high pressure and
changing environment.
6. Knowledge of operational procedures and information systems used within the hospital environment.
7. Ability to effectively prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
Desirable
1. Certificate qualification in Medical Terminology or relevant knowledge and experience in medical terminology and
operating theatre modules.
2. Experience in Medical reception duties
