Male DSW
Primary Purpose:
Provide person-centred support to a male participant living with schizophrenia, promoting independence, wellbeing, community participation, and recovery while maintaining a safe, respectful, and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide emotional support and build a trusting, therapeutic relationship.
- Assist with activities of daily living, including personal care (if required), meal preparation, household tasks, and maintaining a clean living environment.
- Support the participant to establish and maintain daily routines and structure.
- Encourage and facilitate participation in social, recreational, educational, and community activities.
- Assist with attending medical, mental health, and other appointments.
- Prompt and monitor medication as per the participant's support plan and organisational policies (within scope of practice).
- Observe and report changes in mental state, behaviour, mood, or physical health, escalating concerns promptly.
- Implement positive behaviour support strategies and follow behaviour support plans where applicable.
- Support the participant in developing independent living skills, budgeting, shopping, and using public transport where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate documentation, progress notes, and incident reports.
- Respect the participant's dignity, privacy, cultural background, and individual choices.
- Work collaboratively with family members, mental health professionals, support coordinators, and the multidisciplinary team.
Essential Skills and Attributes:
- Experience supporting individuals living with schizophrenia or other psychosocial disabilities.
- Understanding of recovery-oriented and trauma-informed approaches to care.
- Excellent communication, active listening, and de-escalation skills.
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional during challenging situations.
- Strong observation and documentation skills.
- Reliable, empathetic, and respectful approach to person-centred care.
Essential Requirements:
- NDIS Worker Screening Check.
- Working with Children Check (if required).
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable vehicle (if transport support is required).
- Current National Police Check (if required by employer).
- NDIS Worker Orientation Module.
- Full Australian working rights
Pay: $32.00 – $42.00 per hour
