We're looking for a commercially minded Legal Counsel to join our in-house legal team. Reporting to the General Counsel and working alongside experienced legal professionals, you'll provide trusted legal advice across a diverse and complex organisation, partnering with stakeholders to enable great outcomes while protecting Uniting's interests.
The opportunity
The work is varied, interesting and genuinely impactful.
You'll provide practical, commercially focused legal advice across a broad range of matters including commercial contracts, procurement, regulatory compliance, governance, disputes, investigations and statutory interpretation. Working closely with stakeholders across the organisation, you'll identify legal risks early, provide pragmatic solutions and support strategic projects from inception through to delivery.
You'll also contribute to strengthening legal capability across Uniting by supporting policy development, compliance initiatives and helping build a strong culture of ethical decision-making and risk awareness.
What you'll bring
We're looking for a lawyer who enjoys working collaboratively and providing practical, solutions-focused legal advice.
You'll bring:
- A Bachelor of Laws and admission as a lawyer in NSW.
- A current Australian Practising Certificate.
- Around 3+ years' post-qualification experience.
- Experience providing legal advice across commercial, regulatory, disputes or public/community sector matters.
- Strong contract drafting, review and negotiation skills.
- The ability to communicate complex legal issues clearly to a range of stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
Highly regarded:
- In-house legal experience or an in-house secondment.
- Experience within aged care, health, community services or another highly regulated environment.
- Knowledge of governance, compliance and regulatory frameworks within large, complex organisations.
