Liverpool Meals on Wheels is seeking an experienced and passionate Head Chef to lead our commercial kitchen team in preparing high-quality, nutritious meals for older people, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable members of our community.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated chef who enjoys leading a team, maintaining high food safety standards, and making a genuine impact through their work.
Reporting to the Service Manager, you will oversee all aspects of kitchen operations, including menu planning, food production, staff supervision, stock control, and compliance with food safety and workplace standards.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead the day-to-day operations of a busy commercial kitchen which includes preparing and producing 400-500 in a Cook Chill production environment
· Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, hygiene, and food safety.
· Plan and prepare nutritious, high-quality meals that meet a range of dietary and cultural requirements.
- Develop seasonal menus while maintaining food quality and cost control.
- Supervise, mentor and support kitchen staff and volunteers.
- Manage food ordering, stock rotation and inventory.
- Monitor food costs, meal pricing and kitchen budgets.
- Ensure compliance with Food Safety, WHS and relevant legislative requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe and efficient kitchen environment.
- Work collaboratively with management to achieve organisational goals.
Essential Requirements
- Qualified Chef (Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent) with demonstrated experience in a supervisory or Head Chef role.
- Current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate.
- Extensive experience in a commercial catering environment, producing meals in high volumes.
- Strong understanding of nutrition and special dietary requirements, including texture-modified and culturally diverse meals.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Proven leadership, team-building and staff development experience.
- Experience with food costing, budgeting, purchasing and stock control.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently, solve problems and make sound decisions.
- Commitment to workplace health and safety and equal employment opportunity principles.
Desirable
- Experience working within the aged care, community care or not-for-profit sector.
- Knowledge of the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) or similar community services.
- First Aid Certificate.
- Experience working with volunteers.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Hospitality Industry (General) Award– Level 6 Cook, Grade 5.
