Your new role
Are you an experienced sports turf professional with strong leadership skills and a passion for delivering high-quality playing surfaces? Rockhampton Regional Council is seeking a Sports Turf Team Leader to join our Parks Operations team and play a key role in maintaining and enhancing our region’s sporting facilities.
Reporting to the Supervisor Sports and Irrigation, this leadership role is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day delivery of sports turf and greenkeeping activities across the Rockhampton Region. You’ll lead a team to ensure our sports fields, parks, and open spaces are maintained to the highest standards of safety, performance, and presentation.
This is a hands-on role combining leadership, planning, and technical expertise in turf management, irrigation, and field preparation.
This position requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).

Application Criteria
- Certificate III in Sports Turf Management (or related) with extensive practical experience in sports turf operations, including irrigation and high-impact surface maintenance.
- Proven leadership experience supervising and coordinating turf crews, with the ability to mentor staff and maintain high service, safety, and operational standards.
- Strong knowledge of turf management, including field preparation, renovation, and presentation, with experience planning and delivering maintenance programs (mowing, irrigation, fertilisation, aeration, and repairs) to performance standards.
- Experience operating specialised turf equipment, supported by a solid understanding of soil science, including structure, nutrient management, and practices to optimise turf health, durability, and recovery.
