Busby West Public School current enrolment (Term 2 202 is 383 students which includes 75 preschool students (37.5 FTE), 55 students across 7 support unit classes, and 12 mainstream classes. Enrolments have declined slightly over the last 6 years. Only 25% of preschool students are local enrolments and feed into Kindergarten. The school staffing entitlement is 43.601 (FTE) with a total of 60 staff working across the school. Our current FOEI is 162. There are 224 (65%) K-6 EAL/D students. There are 28 (7%) P-6 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Busby West is a complex school and receives substantial funding due to socio-economic background. Families have identified up to 30 different language backgrounds with the three main languages being Arabic, Samoan and Vietnamese. Attendance continues to be an ongoing school focus. The school continues to work with families and students to raise awareness of the importance of regular school attendance. Overall student wellbeing data indicates students feel safe and supported at school. The school has specific measures in place to support student welfare to ensure all students can connect, succeed, thrive and learn. This is supported through the school's expectation for all students to be safe, be respectful and be an active learner.
Approval to teach in a New South Wales government school and have completed an approved course of study in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
Knowledge of how children learn English,with the ability to support students from different backgrounds, and to plan and deliver engaging lessons that build English skills.
Skilled at checking and reporting students’ progress in language learning with strong communication and teamwork skills with students, parents, and staff.
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
