Successful applicants will be based at and required to provide clinical services to adults with genetic metabolic disorders at Westmead Hospital. The position will provide support for outpatient clinics as well as after hours on call responsibilities
The Adult Genetic Metabolic Disorders service is based at Westmead Hospital, a large tertiary care centre located geographically in the middle of Sydney. Currently the clinic has care of around 1100 patients with a confirmed genetic metabolic diagnosis, with the majority of these patients seen regularly. Our team includes metabolic dieticians, advanced trainees in genetic metabolic disorders, and a nurse specialist coordinating care of the lysosomal disorders and enzyme replacement therapy.
There are multiple active clinical trials and research projects underway within the department. The service has a co-located Clinical Genetics department, and maintains strong ties with the paediatric metabolic clinical and laboratory service which is located within the same precinct.
Selection Criteria
Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Qualifications and credentials required for core scope of practice in the specialty.- Sound clinical knowledge in Genetic Metabolic disorders as demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.
- Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical /Dental Practitioner including:
o High level interpersonal and communication skills.
o Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
o Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.
o Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision
- Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.
- Has completed recognised training as a physician under the auspices of the RACP or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience in the diagnosis and management of patients with inborn errors of metabolism.
Working with Children Check
