The Senior Project Officer (Natural and Built Environment) is a specialist role within the Vocational Qualification and Skills Reform Service, supporting Victorian Government vocational education and training (VET) reform initiatives.
Working within the Education Design, Innovation and Services department, the role provides authoritative advice on qualification and skills reform, training package development, accredited courses and implementation risks across the natural and built environment sectors.
Reporting to the Specialist Adviser (Natural and Built Environment Vocational Qualification and Skills Reform Service), this position suits someone with strong policy, project management and stakeholder engagement capabilities, combined with extensive knowledge of the VET sector and training reform environment.
This is a fixed-term opportunity from 3 August 2026 to 17 December 2027.
What You'll Do
- Provide strategic and evidence-based advice on vocational qualification and skills reform initiatives
- Review and assess training packages, accredited courses and reform proposals within natural and built environment sectors
- Identify emerging workforce skills needs, implementation risks and policy implications for government consideration
- Lead consultation and engagement activities with government, industry, regulators, training providers and sector stakeholders
- Prepare high-quality briefing papers, reports and strategic documentation for senior stakeholders
- Support the development, accreditation, monitoring and maintenance of accredited courses and Victorian Purchasing Guides
- Coordinate projects and deliverables to agreed timelines, quality standards and accountability requirements
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, policy development and reform implementation activities
- Provide specialist advice and functional leadership through subject matter expertise
- Extensive experience within the vocational education and training (VET) sector and relevant industry experience within natural and/or built environment sectors
- Strong knowledge of national and Victorian VET policy frameworks, training package development and accredited course processes
- Demonstrated ability to provide high-level specialist advice on complex policy and reform matters
- Excellent analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills
- Strong stakeholder engagement, consultation and influencing capabilities
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing strategic documentation
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes with a high degree of autonomy
- Commitment to professionalism, integrity, continuous improvement and quality assurance
- Experience delivering vocational training programs within natural and/or built environment disciplines
- Knowledge of Victorian workforce skills and training priorities relating to natural and built environment industries
- Understanding of public sector governance, compliance and accountability frameworks
