About the role:
As an Allied Health Assistant within the Division of Rehabilitation, Aged and Palliative Care, you will play a vital role in supporting our allied health professionals to deliver exceptional patient care. Your primary focus will be assisting with patient treatments and interventions designed to enhance independence and improve functional outcomes for our patients. You will be responsible for facilitating a high-quality diverse activity program for older people with Dementia where there are multiple complexities, cognitive behaviours and diverse cultural backgrounds. The program provides a mix of physical, social, cultural, education, entertainment, recreation and diversion.
Reporting to the GEM Allied Health Manager, this role is integral to assistance with patient care as directed in order to improve independence and occupational outcomes.
Duties for the role will include:
Rotational role across NHS and Repat Health Precinct with fixed short-term rosters.
Provide specific therapeutic interventions under direction of AHP staff with geriatric patients with complex co-morbidities including dementia.
Working within a multi-disciplinary team in a hospital ward environment.
Monitoring patient response to therapies and reporting to the supervising AHP.
Accurately maintain documentation standards.
Adhere to relevant WHS requirements including infection control and hand hygiene, reporting of incidents and near misses, safe operation of workplace equipment and manual handling, and maintenance of patient/client confidentiality.
Assist in the maintenance of stock and ordering of supplies and equipment.
Contributing to the development of an integrated team approach and culture which is highly responsive to the needs of our consumers.
About you:
Previous experience working in a health-care setting particularly with older persons and/or persons with cognitive impairment / Dementia would be advantageous
Must possess or be undertaking a Certificate 3 in Allied Health Assistance or equivalent.
Ability to work under close supervision and direction from Allied Health Professionals
Sound communication and interpersonal skills – able to demonstrate the ability to work with people from a variety of cultural and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and to empathise with and motivate people.
Ability to work in a physically demanding environment to assist patient therapy and / or handling of patient related equipment and devices.
Ability to act responsibly in an emergency situation, with an ability to competently undertake pool rescue protocol per the divisions procedures.
Ability to organise time to complete daily tasks, and work within their limits and to recognise when situations are unsafe for patients.
