The Key Part You'll Play
An exciting opportunity has become available for an enthusiastic, committed and customer service focused Maintenance Officer to join our team at Highvale, on a permanent part-time basis.
Nestled near the beautiful parklands and convenient shopping hubs of Glen Waverley, Highvale Retirement Village offers a modern, welcoming environment where residents truly feel at home—and where team members can build rewarding careers.
You will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our properties by undertaking reactive and preventative maintenance activities and providing excellent customer service to our residents. We are seeking a proactive individual with strong communication skills, strong computer skills and a knack for problem-solving.
Reporting to the Village Manager, your duties will include;
- Coordinating maintenance tasks, repairs, and inspections for residential properties
- Assisting with general upkeep and handyperson tasks including minor repairs and installations. Such tasks may include fixing clotheslines, paving, surface patching, removing blinds and awnings during resident move-outs, pressure cleaning, checking and reporting on air conditioning units, replacing fixtures and fittings
- Implementing and adhering to EHS procedures, ensuring safety of all residents, visitors and contractors
- Communicating effectively with residents to address maintenance requests promptly and efficiently
- Collaborating with external contractors to ensure timely completion of work orders
- Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities and update databases accordingly
- Village bus duties including providing safe transportation of our residents and ensuring bus safety compliance and maintenance
- Assisting with various Adhoc duties where required, as directed by the Village Manager
Shifts
- Monday: 7am – 3pm
- Tuesday: 7am – 3pm
- Wednesday: 7am – 3pm
- Friday: 7am – 3pm
While these are our preferred working days, we understand the importance of flexibility and may be able to accommodate alternative days for the right candidate. If you have specific availability requirements, please outline these in your cover letter for consideration.
Your Key to Success
The successful applicant will have demonstrated competence as a maintenance assistant or handyperson or experience in a similar role, as well as:
- Be organised and able to effectively manage and prioritise multiple tasks
- Have effective communication skills for interacting with residents and staff in a friendly, professional manner
- A genuine interest in assisting the independent living seniors
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of machinery operation and the tools required to perform the job effectively
- Have the ability to identify and conduct reactive and preventative general maintenance in homes
- Have a high level of understanding and commitment to EH&S and safety standards
- Demonstrates basic computer skills, including the use of Excel, Word, Outlook, and workplace applications.
- The ability to take initiative and be pro-active
- The ability to work individually and in a team
- Have a current LR Drivers Licence (or be willing to obtain one)
- Hold a current First Aid Certificate (or be willing to obtain one)
Relevant internal training and inductions will be provided to the successful candidate on-site.
