Primary objective
This position is responsible for processing payments for two departments and responding to payment‑related queries. The role
supports the Financial Services unit by ensuring payments are processed accurately, on time, and in accordance with established
financial policies and procedures. The Finance Support Officer works in a busy environment with competing priorities and is
required to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Context statement
The Financial Services unit provides shared services to the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and the Department of
People, Sport and Culture (DPSC). The unit supports financial and budgetary operations, governance, and compliance obligations,
including emergency welfare responses. DCF also operates within the Domestic and Family Violence Risk Assessment Management
Framework (RAMF).
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Receive, collate, and distribute automated and non‑automated payments accurately and in a timely manner using a range of
financial systems and databases.
2. Prepare supporting documentation and correctly code invoices in NT Government payment systems for delegate approval.
3. Provide procedural support to staff in relation to purchase orders, future commitments, and reconciliations, including credit
cards, Cabcharge, TRIPS, and ICT transactions.
4. Triage and allocate finance queries through the Jira communication portal in line with established procedures, escalating
matters where required.
5. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to resolve payment issues and ensure compliance with NT Government payment
policies.
6. Support finance system access requests in accordance with approved processes.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated client and customer service skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse
backgrounds.
2. Demonstrated understanding of financial administration principles, procedures, and procurement practices.
3. Proven organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise work, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain
attention to detail with limited supervision.
4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Outlook and Excel.
5. Ability to accurately process a high volume of financial transactions in accordance with established procedures.
6. Sound knowledge of payment and financial management systems.
7. Demonstrated initiative and a positive, enthusiastic attitude, with the ability to develop new skills to meet business needs.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in finance, accounting, or a business‑related discipline.
