Primary objective
Assist the Medical Imaging staff of Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospital to provide high quality, culturally sensitive care to patients to
achieve best possible health outcomes within the Allied health Assistant (AHA) NTH framework. Assist to provide administrative, clinical
and direct patient support.
Context statement
As a valued member of the Medical Imaging team, the AHA will work under the supervision and delegation of qualified health professionals
to support the delivery of diagnostic and operational tasks, delivering both direct patient care and indirect service support within Medical
Imaging across both RDH and PRH including weekend and evening work.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Prepare for and undertake clinical tasks under the direction and delegation of the health professional, which may include manual
handling and positioning for imaging, equipment and stock management, and other delegated duties as required.
2. Ensure the maintenance of equipment and/or stock, including storage, labelling, cleaning, receiving, distribution, delivery and return,
as well as rotation and monitoring levels of equipment, consumables and other resources
3. Prepare patients for medical imaging examinations, including assisting with pre scan checks and screening, including using a
standardised screening tool and/or other appropriate questionnaires/resources, prepare and clean the examination room and
resources, escort patients to and from the department.
4. Participate in administrative support duties and assist health professionals with client related records as per team policies
5. Research, source, obtain quotes and order resources, equipment and/or stock, in keeping with team direction and budget parameters
and ensure related invoices are processed as per Departmental procedures.
6. Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities in line with RDPH’s strong commitment to Safety and Quality.
7. Comply with defined service quality standards, the AHA NTH framework and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and
procedures to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance OR be enrolled in similar OR relevant experience in a field of technical work closely related
to the duties of the vacancy
2. Demonstrated understanding of multicultural differences and the impacts on health outcomes
3. Well-developed communication, interpersonal skills, negotiation and conflict management skills, with experience working in a team
environment to achieve positive health outcomes.
4. Ability to work under direction and instruction to assist health professionals provide high quality clinical services.
5. Ability to think laterally and problem solve independently with initiative, and demonstrated organisational and time management skills
6. Working experience with clients and consumers within a health, aged care or disability setting.
7. Upholds a high level of personal integrity, confidentiality, adaptability and the ability to interact with diverse cultures
8. Demonstrated computer literacy, and familiarisation with equipment handling and inventory management.
Desirable
1. Experience identifying and participating in quality improvement initiatives to improve workplace practices
