Gitsham is a leading Australian manufacturer of innovative products for automotive applications, workplace equipment, and vehicle racking and storage systems. We are seeking an experienced Design & Manufacturing Engineer to join our team on a full-time permanent basis.
This is a hands-on product development role for an engineer who enjoys taking concepts and customer requirements through to successful manufactured outcomes. Working closely with our Sales, Production and Installation teams, you will play a key role in ensuring products are designed correctly, documented accurately and delivered to meet customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
· Work closely with the Sales team to understand customer requirements and translate needs into practical product solutions.
- Design and develop sheet metal products for automotive and vehicle storage applications.
- Translate customer requirements into practical, manufacturable engineering solutions.
- Produce detailed engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), production documentation and assembly instructions.
- Manage product development through concept, prototyping, manufacturing and final installation.
- Work closely with Production to resolve technical issues and improve manufacturing efficiency.
- Support quality assurance by ensuring products meet design specifications and customer expectations.
- Implement engineering changes and maintain accurate product documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve product performance, quality and manufacturing processes.
About You
You will ideally have:
- A qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering or a related discipline.
- 3-7 years' experience in product design within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong experience designing sheet metal products and manufactured assemblies.
- Experience creating and managing BOMs and engineering documentation.
- A sound understanding of sheet metal fabrication, welding, assembly and Design for Manufacture (DFM).
- Experience using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
- Strong communication, problem solving and organisational skills.
- A practical, hands-on approach with excellent attention to detail.
Experience within the automotive, commercial vehicle or industrial manufacturing sectors will be highly regarded.
