Rugby World Cup Australia is seeking an experienced and driven Logistics Operations & Freight Manager to join our Tournament Services team. Based in Brisbane and reporting to the Head of CCW, Freight & Logistics, this role is critical to the successful delivery of RWC 2027, leading the end-to-end planning and execution of warehousing, distribution, and team freight. You will play a central role in ensuring that all tournament materials and assets ranging from uniforms and sporting equipment to fixtures, furniture, and equipment are efficiently managed, stored, and delivered across all venues.
Working as part of the broader Logistics functional area, you will partner closely with internal Functional Areas, Team Services, participating nations, and key suppliers to design and implement effective supply chain solutions. The role is responsible for coordinating the movement of assets into and out of venues, managing our Freight Service Provider, and overseeing both international and domestic logistics, including team freight and accompanied baggage movements. We are looking for a logistics professional with strong freight and operational experience, ideally within major events, who thrives in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment and brings exceptional stakeholder management, leadership, and problem-solving capabilities.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Lead the management, coordination, and delivery of warehousing, distribution, and team freight workstreams within the Logistics Functional Area.
- Manage the appointed Freight Service Provider, ensuring performance against agreed milestones, KPIs, and budget.
- Oversee warehouse operations, including forecasting storage and resource requirements, and maintaining accurate asset tracking and inventory control.
- Plan and deliver all international and domestic team freight and baggage movements, acting as the key liaison between Team Services and Participating Unions.
- Develop and implement effective supply chain and distribution strategies for tournament assets in collaboration with internal Functional Areas and the Logistics Venues & Materials Manager.
- Liaise with government authorities to streamline customs, import/export processes, and develop the tournament Freight and Customs Guide.
- Build and lead the Logistics Operations & Freight team, while ensuring high-quality documentation, reporting, issue resolution, and operational delivery throughout the tournament lifecycle.
Qualifications & Experience
- 5+ years’ experience in freight, logistics operations, and warehouse/distribution management, ideally within complex or large-scale environments.
- Experience delivering major sporting events or large-scale events, managing time-critical, high-volume, and non-standard logistics - mandatory
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Experience managing third-party logistics providers (3PLs), including performance oversight, contract delivery, and budget management.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across internal teams, external suppliers, government authorities, and partners.
- Proven leadership capability, including building, leading, and motivating teams in high-pressure, fast-paced operational environments.
- High level of attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and resilience, with the ability to operate in complex environments, adapt to changing demands, and oversee logistics systems.
- Calm under pressure, proactive and adaptable, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments, while remaining flexible to travel and work evenings/weekends as required
