CNC Machinist – Precision Engineering
Hardman Group is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to join our precision manufacturing team. The role involves machining high-integrity components and gearbox parts used in demanding industrial applications, working within a quality-driven engineering environment.
This position will involve operating and setting up a range of advanced CNC machines including Mori CNC lathes, STAR Swiss lathes and Hermle 5-axis machining centres. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing precision components from steel, aluminium and specialist engineering alloys, working to tight tolerances and high surface finish requirements.
The role requires a strong ability to interpret detailed engineering drawings and 3D models, select appropriate tooling and work holding solutions, and verify programs prior to production.
Machining work may include complex turned and milled components, gearbox parts such as shafts, housings and precision drive components, along with gear manufacturing operations including gear cutting, hobbing, shaping and/or gear grinding where required.
The role may also involve machining and refurbishment of industrial gearbox components including gears, shafts, bearing journals and housings used in heavy-duty drive systems.
A key aspect of the role is maintaining high levels of dimensional accuracy and quality control through both manual inspection and advanced measurement systems. Machinists will regularly utilise micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges and CMM inspection equipment to verify critical dimensions and ensure compliance with engineering specifications.
The successful candidate will work within a workshop operating under AS9100 and ISO9001 quality management systems, where traceability, documentation and process discipline are essential.
In addition to machining responsibilities, the role involves contributing to preventative machine maintenance, tooling optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives within the workshop.
