Details: Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) is looking for an experienced Facilities Operational Support Manager to join the CIT facilities team. We are looking to fill a Permanent position within the Facilities team and to build a merit pool for future expected temporary and permanent vacancies across the branch.
WHAT DO WE WANT?
CIT is looking for an experienced and capable facilities professional to support the delivery of cleaning, security, and operational services across a multi-campus environment. The successful applicant will bring strong operational coordination skills, experience in facilities or campus services, and the ability to work across multiple service streams including cleaning, security, compliance, and systems management. You will play a key role in ensuring facilities services are safe, compliant, sustainable, and responsive to the needs of students, staff, and the broader CIT community.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
As part of the CIT Facilities team, you will provide operational coordination and support across physical security, cleaning services, and campus operations. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Facilities, your responsibilities will include:

Coordinating daily cleaning and security services across CIT campuses to ensure high-quality, compliant service delivery

Managing contractor performance and acting as a key liaison with service providers and internal stakeholders

Undertaking inspections, audits, and compliance checks to ensure adherence to WHS and environmental standards

Supporting the management and continuous improvement of facilities management systems (e.g. Sine Pro, SafetyCulture, FMI)

Providing operational support for new and redeveloped facilities, including commissioning and establishment activities

Supporting the transition toward an insourced cleaning model, including workforce coordination and planning

Assisting in emergency management, risk mitigation, and operational planning activities

Preparing reports and providing operational advice to support informed decision-making

You will contribute to ensuring CIT campuses remain safe, clean, secure, and efficient environments that support teaching, learning, and business operations.
WHAT DO I NEED?
To be successful in this role, you will bring demonstrated experience in facilities operations or a related service environment, with a sound understanding of cleaning, security, and contractor‑managed service delivery across complex or multi‑site settings. You will have strong working knowledge of work health and safety requirements, compliance obligations, and operational risk management, and the ability to apply these in a practical, solutions‑focused manner.
You will be highly organised, able to manage competing priorities and time‑critical issues, and demonstrate sound judgement and initiative in a dynamic operational environment. Your ability to build and maintain effective working relationships will be critical, as you will work closely with internal stakeholders, contractors, and service providers to deliver consistent and high‑quality outcomes.
In addition, you will have experience using digital systems and technology to support operational delivery, reporting, and compliance tracking, along with well‑developed communication skills to provide clear, timely, and practical advice. A collaborative approach, professionalism, and a commitment to continuous improvement will ensure your success in contributing to safe, clean, secure, and efficient campus operations.

Eligibility/Other requirements:
- Completion of a Criminal History Record Check prior to commencement.

Possession of a current driver’s licence and first aid certificate (or ability to obtain one) are highly desirable.

Qualifications in Cleaning Operations, Facilities Management, or Work Health and Safety, Business Administration, Management or Security will be highly regarded.

First Aid Certificate (desirable).

Demonstrated capability using digital systems and technology for operational delivery, including:

Sine Pro (contractor and access management)

SafetyCulture (inspections, audits, and compliance reporting)

FMI or equivalent FM/work order system (asset and maintenance management)
Notes: This position may involve occasional after-hours, weekend, or on-call work in line with operational requirements. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection will be based on application, Interview and referee reports. Interviews will be by a Selection Advisory Committee (SAC).
