Primary objective
Under the supervision of the Senior Rosters Clerk, be responsible for developing and maintaining the daily electronic rostering
system to meet operational requirements.
Context statement
Rosters officers do a variety of administrative work to manage the operational roster for the Darwin Correctional Centre, Berrimah
Correctional Centre and Datjala Work Camp. The Roster Office is a small, busy office that operates in a complex correctional
environment. The Rosters Clerk needs to have excellent attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure with
demonstrated experience using databases and excel systems.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist the Senior Rosters Clerk in effective rostering, including overtime and higher duties, to meet operational requirements
of Darwin Correctional Centre, Berrimah Correctional Centre and Datjala Work Camp.
2. Create and manage the daily roster including scheduling of staff for medical, court and interstate escorts.
3. Responsible for processing and monitoring shift changes, time in lieu and all leave processing.
4. Ensure data processing and entry within the roster cycle is accurate and current and in accordance with Enterprise Agreement
conditions, Directives and local procedures.
5. Contribute to the business unit and promote a high level of customer focussed service.
6. Assist the Senior Rosters Clerk in providing advice on conditions of service and pay queries.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Experience undertaking high level administrative work including the ability to manage a demanding workload and meet tight
deadlines.
2. Knowledge of Employment legislation, conditions of service and Enterprise Agreements or the ability to acquire quickly.
3. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in staff rostering and the coordination of backfilling to ensure continuity of
operations within a complex environment, or the proven ability to quickly acquire these capabilities.
4. Previous experience with electronic rostering systems and highly proficient with spreadsheets and databases or demonstrated
ability to acquire quickly
5. A high standard of interpersonal skills including self-confidence, positive attitude and excellent communication skills and the
ability to interact with a diverse range of clients including senior staff.
6. Ability to work in a small team, work independently under pressure with minimal supervision, seeking guidance where
appropriate.
7. Demonstrated high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Desirable
1. A knowledge of the objectives, structure and legislation of the Department of Corrections.
