About the Opportunity:
Stantec’s Power team in Australia is currently offering exciting opportunities for Equipment Engineers to work on a variety of HV (11kV and above) / EHV (132kV and above) AIS/GIS AC and DC substation projects throughout Australia.
Equipment Engineers are responsible for major equipment such as power transformers, STATCOMS, station service transformers, circuit breakers, HV/MV GIS, metal-clad switchgear, disconnect switching, circuit switchers, fuse cut-outs, instrument transformers, series capacitors, shunt reactors, surge arresters, wave traps, NGR, power cables, etc. for HV/EHV AC and DC substation projects. They will work within a multi-disciplinary team to support the development of efficient and reliable substations for our clients. They will coordinate the planning and technical activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion.
Key responsibilities include:
- Prepare technical specifications for major equipment, construction and Testing & Commissioning.
- Provide technical support for procurement, construction and commissioning.
- Review and approve vendor drawings for new equipment.
- Review and approve test results from pre and post testing work, sign off on Test Report Cover Sheet (TRCS) for new equipment.
- Review field delegation report to check work is done satisfactory.
- Develop safe engineering solutions by using initiative and judgement to perform activities such as developing designs, analyzing and resolving problems, and interpreting engineering specifications on complex assignments for projects and/or operations.
- Perform periodic tasks independently which may include on-site construction quality control and monitoring to ensure design compliance.
- Engage with the engineering team where engineering problems are difficult, complex, or unusual, to support management of engineering risk.
- Assist in preparing proposals, project plans and estimate.
- Coordinate with other disciplines during project execution to solve challenging technical issues.
- Follow internal QA/QC procedures to deliver high quality engineering service to the clients.
- Design/Engineering in Electrical may be required to complete deliverables.

About You:
You are an experienced and technically strong electrical engineer with a passion for substation design and delivery. You thrive in a collaborative environment, enjoy mentoring others, and can confidently manage multiple projects and stakeholder relationships.
You will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems preferred)
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in equipment engineering for HV/EHV substations, ideally within Australian utility or transmission environments
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) registered with Engineers Australia
- Strong experience with primary substation equipment including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, GIS, reactors, capacitors, instrument transformers and associated plant
- Experience preparing technical specifications, reviewing vendor designs, and supporting equipment procurement activities
- Exposure to testing and commissioning of HV/EHV substation equipment (desirable)
- Understanding of Civil/Structural and Protection & Control interfaces within substation projects
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD and MicroStation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with clients, suppliers, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes within project timeframes
- Valid Australian driver's licence
