The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated, hands-on, full-time Retail Manager to oversee the daily operations, customer service, trade accounts, and commercial performance of our retail storefront and yard operations. This is a permanent, full-time position requiring a dedication to maintaining high operational standards, optimizing stock levels, and driving retail sales growth in a fast-paced trade environment.

- Salary: $80,000 - $82,000 per annum + Superannuation
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Operational Leadership: Determining, implementing, and monitoring product mixes, stock levels, and service standards to maximize retail turnover and trade customer satisfaction.
- Financial Management: Formulating and managing store budgets, monitoring purchasing costs, and pricing goods to optimize profit margins.
- Inventory & Bulk Control: Maintaining full oversight of inventory levels, coordinating bulk stock orders, and ensuring accurate stock rotation within the retail yard.
- Visual Merchandising: Coordinating and maintaining high-quality product displays, trade signage, and yard layouts to drive retail sales.
- Customer Excellence: Developing and implementing store policies to resolve customer enquiries and trade account complaints efficiently.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensuring full compliance with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) regulations, dangerous goods laws, transport compliance, and company policies within the retail facility.
- Staff Management: Supervising, mentoring, and managing the roster of junior retail assistants, dispatch coordinators, and yard staff to maintain a high-performing team.
- Customer Advisory & Sales: Providing expert, face-to-face customer service to retail and DIY clients; identifying specific project requirements to make tailored product recommendations on turf, pavers, and retaining structures to assist with their landscaping projects.
Qualifications & Experience Required
To be considered for this role, applicants must demonstrate:
- Education: A relevant AQF Diploma or higher qualification (e.g., Diploma of Retail Management, Business, or Commerce).
- Experience: In the absence of a formal diploma, a minimum of 3 years of relevant, verifiable experience as a Retail Manager, Assistant Retail Manager, or Trade Yard Manager is strictly required.
- Niche Product Knowledge: Proven technical knowledge of civil and retaining structures, including the ability to accurately advise clients on different concrete sleeper types, structural retaining walls, and bulk landscape materials is highly desirable.
- Safety & Compliance: Demonstrated operational knowledge of safe chemical handling procedures, hazardous substances storage, and SDS compliance management within an industrial or trade retail setting is highly desirable.
- Heavy Operational Environment: Comfortable managing a retail storefront that interfaces directly with heavy machinery, transport logistics, loading yards, and forklift operations.
- Skills: Strong communication skills, commercial acumen, proficiency with digital inventory/POS software, and a firm commitment to safety compliance.
- Licences & Tickets: Must hold a current, valid Australian High-Risk Work Forklift Licence (LF) and demonstrate a commitment to safe operating procedures.
Pay: $80,000.00 – $82,000.00 per year
