Southern Midwifery Group Practice (SMGP) provides a rewarding continuity of carer model, allowing midwives to build strong relationships with women and families throughout pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period. SMGP supports a range of maternity care options across Southern Metropolitan Adelaide, including home birth services, offering midwives the opportunity to work to their full scope of practice within a supportive and experienced team.
About the role:
Reporting to the Midwifery Unit Manager, this role is responsible for support them through pregnancy, birth, and the early postnatal period.
Duties for the role will include:
Providing primary midwifery care across community and hospital settings — conducting antenatal appointments, attending births as the known midwife, and delivering postnatal follow-up including home visits across Adelaide's southern suburbs
Managing a personal caseload from booking to discharge, building genuine therapeutic relationships with women and families, and applying evidence-based clinical assessment and individualised care planning at every stage
Working within a rostered on-call model to ensure your caseload clients have access to their known midwife during labour and birth, requiring flexibility across days, evenings, and weekends
Plan and coordinate services with other disciplines or agencies in providing individual health care needs
Contributing actively to the quality and sustainability of the Midwifery Group Practice model through participation in case review, practice meetings, and ongoing quality improvement activities
About you:

Registered or eligible for registration as a Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
Holds a current, unrestricted Driver’s License
Foetal Surveillance Education Program - Level 2
Maternal Obstetric Multi-professional Training (MOM’s)
Demonstrated competence in midwifery practice in accordance with the relevant standards.
Demonstrated competency and proficiency in midwifery practice related to antenatal care, labour and delivery, postnatal care, lactation, and infant feeding.
