Introduction:
HMPS Group is seeking a motivated and reliable Trade Assistant to join our busy workshop team based at Adelaide Airport. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work and wants to develop their skills in a supportive engineering and manufacturing environment.
Working alongside experienced machinists, welders, fitters, and store personnel, you'll play an important role in keeping our workshop operating safely and efficiently.
About the Role
Reporting to the Stores and Machining Manager, you will provide day-to-day support across machining, fabrication, assembly, stores, and dispatch activities. You'll assist with preparing materials, maintaining equipment, handling goods, and ensuring the workshop remains organised and productive.
Description:
Key Responsibilities
- Assist machinists, welders, fitters, and other tradespeople with daily workshop activities.
- Operate basic workshop machinery and equipment under supervision.
- Load, unload, transport, identify, and prepare materials for machining and assembly.
- Check incoming goods against delivery documentation.
- Clean, deburr, and prepare components for machining or installation.
- Assist with assembly, finishing, and surface treatment of components.
- Inspect materials and completed work, reporting any quality issues.
- Perform routine maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop.
- Support warehouse and store operations, including loading and unloading trucks and packaging orders for dispatch.
- Complete production records and update documentation as required.
- Follow all Workplace Health and Safety requirements and correctly use PPE.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and maintain a professional, team-focused approach.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- Previous experience in a manufacturing, engineering, warehouse, or workshop environment
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Good mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills.
- The ability to work well within a team and follow instructions.
- A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
- Good communication skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to perform manual handling tasks and work in a physically active environment.
- A current forklift licence or willingness to obtain one
