Nunkuwarrin Yunti is the largest Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation in metropolitan Adelaide. We provide a culturally safe environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples to access services, guided by our values of Caring, Community, Communication and Consistency.
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse to join our team as a Sexual Health, Syphilis & BBV. This pivotal role focuses on delivering culturally appropriate, high-quality sexual health services, with a strong emphasis on the prevention, early detection, and management of syphilis and blood-borne viruses (BBV) within Aboriginal communities.
About the Role
You will:
- Provide and facilitate opportunities for screening (in clinical and community settings as appropriate) with specific focus on high-risk populations and individuals.
- Ensure positive cases are provided timely, sensitive, and confidential follow up within the community for results, treatment, and contact tracing.
- Contribute to accurate data collection to enable continuous quality improvement including auditing of positive cases and screening rates for Syphilis and other STIs
- Participate in networking with similar positions across SA ACCHs.
- Lead the upskilling of clinical staff in current recommendations for prevention, screening, diagnosis, and management of syphilis and other STIs.
- Contribute to the development of STI protocols for Communicare.
- Lead the development of appropriate STI related resources.
- Support community education and health promotion activities relevant to STIs, especially syphilis, including safe sex messages.
About You
You bring:
- Minimum qualification Certificate Bachelor of Nursing or other equivalent vocational qualification
- Demonstrated understanding of the contemporary issues facing Aboriginal people and the impacts these issues have on Indigenous Australian societies and cultures
- Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal people
- Experience working in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service or primary health care setting or equivalent
- Knowledge of best practice approaches to sexual health care, including screening, treatment and follow up care of clients
- Knowledge of management of blood born viruses
- Experience in developing and or contributing to the planning, development, and distribution of health promotion resources and or training for client
- Proven well-developed written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to liaise and network
- effectively with a range of key stakeholders including health professionals and administrative staff
- Demonstrated knowledge, skill, and experience in continuous quality improvement processes
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
- Demonstrated experience in managing a diverse range of tasks and competing priorities, working with minimal supervision and ability as a member of a team
Desirable:
- Registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Authority (AHPRA) and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
- Certificate IV in Training and Education or equivalent.
- Significant experience in the use of Communicare or other electronic client health information management system
- Experience in data collection including audits and continuous quality improvement initiatives
- Experience in leading and facilitating community education and health promotion strategies
