Smardt is the world's largest manufacturer of oil-free centrifugal chillers, with operations in Australia, Canada, USA, Germany and China. Our Bayswater North site is at the centre of Smardt Australia's product development and manufacturing operations.
We are seeking a BOM Coordinator to join our Engineering department.
About the role
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) across all chiller projects, and for coordinating engineering changes through to production.
Key responsibilities
- Create, update and maintain accurate BOMs for all products and projects
- Interpret mechanical and electrical drawings and wiring diagrams to build BOMs from design data
- Create and maintain BOMs and items in PDM and ERP systems
- Identify and rectify discrepancies in BOMs to prevent production delays
- Facilitate and manage the ECO process for BOM and design modifications, updates and revisions
- Review and manage Change Requests from Engineering and other departments
- Communicate change details to relevant stakeholders and ensure smooth implementation of approved changes
- Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Procurement and Manufacturing teams to review and validate BOM accuracy
- Maintain accurate records of BOMs, change requests, approvals and implementation details
- Manage documentation related to product specifications, drawings and technical data
- Identify opportunities to streamline BOM management and change coordination processes
Qualifications / Experience / Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Commerce or a related field
- A minimum of one year of post-qualification experience in a similar role
- Experience in BOM management, engineering data management or change coordination within a manufacturing or production environment
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings and wiring diagrams
- Strong understanding of product lifecycle, manufacturing processes and engineering documentation
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with diverse teams and convey technical information clearly
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining data accuracy
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to analyse complex situations and propose effective solutions
- Ability to work independently with a proactive, 'can-do' approach
