The St Vincent’s Hospital Anaesthetic Department delivers over 8,000 anaesthetics per year. In addition, services are provided to Cardiothoracic Transplantation, Intensive Care, Endoscopy, Acute Pain and Outpatient services.
Positions are accredited by the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. There are positions in General Anaesthesia and Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia. Applicants should have passed the second part of the FANZCA or equivalent.
There are a number of Provisional Fellowship positions in the St Vincent's Anaesthetic Department - two positions are allocated to cardiothoracic anaesthesia for a full clinical year, and two positions are allocated to a provisional fellow in non-cardiac anaesthesia.
The Cardiothoracic Anaesthetic Fellowship offers a unique adult cardiothoracic anaesthetic experience including anaesthesia for heart & lung transplantation, ventricular assist devices, complex valvular surgery and interventional structural heart procedures. This position includes extensive TOE experience & the successful applicant will be expected to complete advanced certification in TOE.

- St Vincent's offers two provisional fellowship positions in noncardiac anaesthesia - an airway fellowship and an education/ simulation fellowship
- We also offer focused training in sub-specialty areas such as vascular, major head and neck, & neurosurgery. There is a four day clinical week and an opportunity to be involved in high fidelity simulation programs, major quality improvement projects within the hospital, large scale audits or research projects. The general provisional fellowship year is excellent preparation for consultant anaesthetic practice.
