An exciting permanent full-time opportunity is available within our Governance Services team for a Manager Governance and Strategy. This role provides strategic leadership across governance, strategic planning, risk, procurement and council support services, ensuring strong corporate foundations support organisational performance and sustainable community outcomes. You will lead high-performing teams, foster strong stakeholder relationships, and champion continuous improvement and effective resource management.
The key responsibilities of this role:
- Contributing to the strategic direction and transformation of the branch and the city, driving continuous improvement and organisational change.
- Supporting the Director in the delivery of organisational objectives through strategic leadership, innovation and effective change management.
- Providing high-level strategic advice to the Director and Chief Executive Officer, ensuring services are responsive to community needs and aligned with strategic priorities.
- Leading the planning, delivery and evaluation of services across governance, strategy, risk management, compliance, procurement and council support functions, with a strong focus on transformation and service improvement.
- Driving performance monitoring and continuous improvement to ensure alignment with Council and organisational objectives.
- Leading and developing a high-performing team culture that promotes accountability, collaboration, innovation and change.
- Overseeing budgets, resources and projects, ensuring sound financial management and the successful delivery of change initiatives.
- Developing and implementing policies, strategies and frameworks that strengthen governance, compliance and organisational capability.
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant legislative, regulatory and organisational requirements.
- Championing innovation and continuous improvement to enhance service delivery and organisational effectiveness.
- Building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships across government, community and internal stakeholders to support strategic and transformation outcomes.
- Representing the City and fostering partnerships that enable strategic change and improved community outcomes.
Essential Criteria To be successful you will have:
- Demonstrated knowledge of governance, strategy, risk and compliance frameworks.
- Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to translate objectives into practical outcomes.
- Proven experience in leading, managing and evaluating complex programs and services.
- Demonstrated leadership capability, including building and developing high-performing teams.
- Experience in leading change and driving continuous improvement.
- Highly developed communication, stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills.
- Strong financial and resource management skills, including budgeting experience.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or extensive senior management experience.
- Experience in local government or a similar complex public sector environment is highly desirable.
Salary Package
Circa $175,000 per annum, excluding superannuation
