About Proserpine Hospital
Proserpine is busy Level 3 facility providing essential healthcare services to the Whitsunday region and surrounding communities. Located in the heart of the Whitsundays, the hospital delivers a broad range of inpatient, emergency, maternity, surgical, outpatient and allied health services to a diverse and growing population. The facility supports a strong rural generalist model of care, offering clinicians the opportunity to work across a varied and rewarding scope of practice with a rewarding blend of obstetrics, emergency medicine and inpatient care.
The maternity service at Proserpine Hospital provides antenatal, birthing and postnatal care for women across the Whitsunday region, including the Proserpine, Cannonvale, Airlie Beach, Bowen and Collinsville communities. As a Rural Generalist Obstetrician, you will play an integral role in delivering safe, patient-centred maternity care in collaboration with experienced midwives, nursing staff and multidisciplinary teams. The service provides a rewarding and varied rural obstetric practice with a level of clinical activity that supports the consolidation and maintenance of procedural and obstetric skills across the full scope of rural generalist practice.
Proserpine Hospital operates a busy 24-hour Emergency Department with a volume and acuity well suited to the Rural Generalist scope of practice. The facility is supported by a 24-hour PHO roster, Junior House Officers, interns and medical students, creating a strong team-based environment where education, supervision and mentorship are an important part of the organisational culture.
