Amazon is searching for an innovative and solutions-oriented Operations Engineer to be a part of our global initiative of developing and delivering the next generation of world-class fulfillment systems. Successful candidates are natural self-starters who have prior engineering experience in the integrated automation project life cycle, including development, design, implementation, enhancement, and support.
As an Operations Engineer for Amazon Fulfillment, you will work with some of the most talented engineers in the design, development, and delivery of physical distribution systems around the globe. You are responsible for managing a technology or integration project, successfully delivering the solution to meet project goals. You may work directly with external equipment vendors, customers, or partners, and you have a solid understanding of the design approaches and industry technologies utilized in fulfillment and distribution center designs. To meet timelines and minimize disruption to support teams, you manage the overall schedule, proactively mitigate risks, and keep the scope of engineering deliverables under control.

Key job responsibilities
- Work independently with internal and external engineering teams to deliver high-quality, cross-functional projects on-time, on-budget, with low defects and maintainable outcomes.
- Partner with project managers and external vendors to set priorities, establish milestones, and drive schedules to meet deadlines.
- Influence and review technical documentation, diving deep into system layouts and solutions, and competently represent designs to customers and other teams.
- Communicate project status clearly and concisely to leadership, effectively answering questions in detail and producing regular summaries.
- Develop strong working relationships with vendors, engineers, managers, peers, FC/SC leadership, operations teams, and business stakeholders (Launch, Facilities, Finance, Safety, Process Engineers) across multiple sites.
- Participate in design reviews and support execution between internal teams and vendors, including equipment specifications, material flow, process design, and site layout.
- Manage budget documents, change order controls, purchase orders, and invoicing. Identify and lead process improvement initiatives in support of operations teams within a geographic node.
- Travel up to 50% domestically, with variable intensity including up to three weeks consecutively, including weekends.
- 5+ years of industrial engineer, operations engineer, manufacturing engineer, or project engineer in a manufacturing environment experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, VBA, and SQL at the intermediate level
- Experience working with and managing third party vendors
- Experience with Six Sigma, lean manufacturing
- Experience in managing cool chains, refrigeration equipment and installations, temperature-controlled environments are considered a strong plus.
- French, German, Polish, Arabic, Portuguese, Turkish, Chinese (Mandarin), Afrikaans and Zulu are considered preferred qualifications.
