This role will see you working in the community, assisting clients with personal care, hygiene & grooming, light domestic support, including shopping, preparing meals, escorting to appointments, respite, social activities to support clients to remain living independently and comfortably in their own homes.
STAR Community Services is looking for enthusiastic and dedicated Direct Support Workers (DSW) to join our team in Redlands, Southern Mortan Bay Islands, Logan, Ipswich & Gold Coast. STAR Community Services LTD is a leading not-for-profit organisation providing transport, aged care, and disability support services to the elderly, frail, and those with disabilities. We are proud to support members of our community enjoy a healthier, independent life. We are currently servicing Redlands, Ipswich, Logan, Gold Coast & Toowoomba areas.
What are we looking for in our DSW?
A caring nature and a genuine interest in responding to the needs of others
Good communication skills, both written and verbal
The physical capability to carry out a range of manual tasks
Broad shift availability! The more available you are, the more work we can offer
What are the minimum requirements?
- Be eligible to work in Australia
- Green Ps or Open Current "C" class Qld driver's licenceA roadworthy, registered and insured vehicleCOVID-19 vaccinated recommended and encouragedCurrent flu vaccination is mandatoryNDIS Worker Screening Clearance (or current Yellow Card)A First Aid/CPR CertificateNDIS Worker Orientation Certificate
What the role involves:
- Domestic services – all house cleaning tasks with the exception of anything requiring working at heights
- Personal care, hygiene & grooming
- Conversation and companionship
- Promote client independence by working beside each person encouraging them to participate in managing their own life tasks
- Accompany to shopping, dinner or lunch in a café or restaurant
- Outdoor activities like walking, Crafts, Scrapbooking, Knitting etc.
- Games to promote mental stimulation
- Discussion of current and historic events to help sharpen memory
- Reminiscing as an enjoyable pastime
- Record family history
- Research activities and venues that fit with client cultural and support needs and interests
- Escort to appointments and special events
- Doctor and hospital visits
