Primary objective
Deliver high quality, culturally appropriate and effective speech pathology services within NT Health.
Context statement
NT Health provides integrated allied health services in a variety of service settings including acute and sub-acute care, primary
health care, aged care and mental health. Currently seeking applicants in the primary health care setting. Children’s Development
Team (CDT) provides multidisciplinary services to children (predominately aged 0-8 years), families and community-based partners
in the Darwin Urban region with an emphasis on early intervention.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide timely, clinically and culturally appropriate speech pathology services under minimal supervision within a
multidisciplinary framework.
2. Provide feedback to senior staff and management on program and clinical issues.
3. Provide clinical/professional supervision and/or support to students and relevant staff.
4. Prioritise and manage a caseload within a dynamic and evolving work environment to ensure timelines and health outcomes
are met.
5. Co-ordinate and/or contribute to continuous quality improvement and service development activities at a local or regional
level to ensure delivery of contemporary speech pathology services.
6. Contribute to the achievement of work unit goals and key performance indicators.
7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken
in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
8. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Relevant qualifications in Speech Pathology from an Australian tertiary institution (or equivalent) with eligibility for certified
practising membership of Speech Pathology Australia.
2. Post graduate experience in providing contemporary high level clinical speech pathology services to children and their
families/carers.
3. Demonstrated awareness and understanding of Aboriginal culture and proven experience in working effectively with children
and families/carers of diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
4. Well-developed communication, interpersonal skills, negotiation and conflict management skills, with experience working in a
team environment to achieve positive health outcomes.
5. Demonstrated ability to provide clinical supervision of students and/or staff and a commitment to professional development.
6. Proven ability to implement and complete continuous quality improvement and service development activities.
7. Proven ability to efficiently and effectively manage a high-volume workload.
Desirable
1. Post-graduate experience within community based paediatric multidisciplinary team settings delivering quality culturally
responsive services.
