## Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Sheetmetal Worker to join our team and contribute to the fabrication, assembly, and installation of high-quality sheetmetal products and components. The successful candidate will bring hands-on experience working with a range of metals and materials, interpreting technical drawings, and operating both hand and power tools to deliver precise, compliant outcomes. This role suits a trade-qualified professional who takes pride in their craft, works safely and efficiently, and thrives in a fast-paced production or construction environment. Whether your background is in industrial fabrication, on-site installation, or specialist metalwork, we welcome applications from experienced tradespeople ready to make a meaningful contribution to our operations.
## Key Responsibilities
- Interpret and work from engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and job specifications to determine material requirements, equipment needs, and sequencing of work
- Select appropriate metal stock — including stainless steel, galvanised iron, mild steel, aluminium, and copper — and verify dimensions, gauges, and tolerances against project specifications prior to commencing work
- Mark out metal stock accurately using templates, gauges, scribers, and precision measuring instruments, establishing clear reference points and cut lines to ensure consistency across components
- Cut metal stock to size and shape using hand shears, power shears, guillotines, plasma cutters, and drills, following marked guidelines and maintaining clean, accurate edges
- Shape and form cut metal into components and finished products using folding and bending machines, rollers, presses, and hand tools including hammers and dollies
- Fit and assemble components into finished products through welding, riveting, soldering, brazing, and mechanical fastening, ensuring structural integrity and compliance with specifications
- Finish assembled products to the required standard by polishing, filing, sanding, deburring, and cleaning surfaces in preparation for inspection or installation
- Inspect completed work against drawings and quality standards, identifying defects or dimensional variations and making corrections where required
- Repair and restore damaged or worn sheetmetal products and components, assessing condition and determining the most appropriate repair method
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work area in accordance with WHS legislation, site safety plans, and company procedures, including the correct use of PPE at all times
- Collaborate effectively with other tradespeople, supervisors, and project teams to coordinate workflow, meet deadlines, and deliver projects on time and to specification
- Complete relevant documentation including job cards, material records, and inspection reports accurately and in a timely manner
## Required Qualifications & Skills
- Completed trade qualification in Sheetmetal Work (Certificate III in Engineering — Fabrication Trade or equivalent), or a recognised overseas equivalent assessed as suitable for the Australian market
- Demonstrated hands-on experience working across sheetmetal fabrication, forming, and assembly in a commercial, industrial, or construction environment
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, engineering blueprints, and fabrication specifications
- Competence in the operation of relevant machinery and equipment including guillotines, folding machines, rollers, presses, and hand and power tools
- Solid welding skills across relevant processes such as MIG, TIG, or oxy-acetylene, with the ability to produce clean, structurally sound joins
- Strong understanding of material properties across a range of metals, including appropriate selection and handling for different applications
- Sound knowledge of and commitment to workplace health and safety obligations, including hazard identification, safe work method statements, and correct PPE usage
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail, with the ability to work to tight tolerances and consistently produce quality outcomes
- Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team, managing time effectively and contributing positively to team goals
- Current and valid Australian driver's licence (desirable for roles with a site-based or mobile component)
## Preferred Qualifications
- White Card (Construction Induction Training) or relevant state-based equivalent
- Working at Heights or Confined Spaces certification, depending on the nature of the role
- Experience in on-site assembly and installation of sheetmetal ductwork, cladding, or building components
- Exposure to advanced fabrication techniques such as precision aerospace or aircraft sheetmetal work, or specialist decorative copperwork
- Forklift licence (LF class) or experience operating overhead cranes or other materials-handling equipment
- Familiarity with quality management systems, ISO standards, or lean manufacturing principles in a production environment
- First aid certificate (HLTAID011 or equivalent)
