About Us
Big Loaf Factory is a busy, community-focused bakery known for artisan breads, quality coffee, and warm, friendly service. We’re looking for a capable and driven Head Barista/Shop Supervisor to play a key leadership role in both our coffee section and overall shop operations.
We are a small team, so this individual needs to be able to lead both our barista team and front-of-house staff. Not afraid to roll up their sleeves, some days this person might be one of only three staff on shift. That means "it's not my job" is not an attitude that is acceptable. Whether you are a barista, or front-of house, what matters is that it's one team.
Role Overview
This position is suited to someone ready to step into a supervisory role with a strong barista background. You will lead the coffee section while working closely with the Shop Manager to oversee daily operations, team performance, and customer experience. You’ll be trusted to run the shop confidently in the manager’s absence.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and coach our barista team to deliver flawless, consistent coffee, every shift.
Oversee daily shop operations alongside the Shop Manager
Take full responsibility for the shop when the Manager is not present
Lead the coffee section, ensuring consistent, high-quality beverages
Train, support, and supervise baristas and shop staff
Assist with rostering, staff coordination, and workflow management
Ensure excellent customer service standards are maintained across the team
Monitor stock levels, place orders, and manage inventory (coffee and front-of-house)
Support opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and reporting
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, service, and team performance
What We’re Looking For
Strong barista experience with 1-2 years in a leadership of supervisory role
The ability to coach and mentor, not just manage
Leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team
Confident decision-maker who can run shifts independently
Highly organized with strong multitasking ability
Excellent communication and customer service skills
A hands-on, proactive attitude
