Innovative Care Services is recruiting a dedicated, casual/part-time female Support Worker to provide person-centred care for our lovely 56-year-old woman living in her own unit in Drouin, Victoria. Following a brain injury in 2021, the Participant experiences mobility limitations and relies on an electric wheelchair and a hoist. She is fully verbal, acts as her own best advocate, and appreciates a highly structured routine.
This role focuses on maintaining her safety, supporting her morning and medication routines, and helping her build capacity to access the community.
Detailed Responsibilities
1. Personal Care & Routine Support
- Morning Routine: Assist with waking up, preparing breakfast, and managing her morning schedule.
- Showering: Safely assist with a pleasant shower using a shower chair.
- Medication Administration: Ensure strict adherence to a critical schedule involving the administration of 7 different medications.
2. Mobility & Safety Management
- Hoist Transfers
- Health Monitoring: Maintain a watchful eye for known medical vulnerabilities, including heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, dizziness, and a history of migraines or fainting spells.
3. Community Access & Social Engagement
- Outing Assistance: Drive and accompany participant on outings in her wheelchair to reduce social isolation and promote independence.
- Preferred Activities: Accompany her to local parks, accessible nature reserves, spots with beautiful scenic views, and local cafes for coffee or trying new foods.
- Family Connection: Facilitate her access to social interactions, such as attending family barbecues or staying in touch with her children and siblings.
4. Home Environment & Communication Ethics
- Environmental Preferences: Maintain a peaceful, quiet home environment free from loud noises.
- Communication Style: Speak clearly and directly. Listen attentively to her care preferences and respect her choices.
- Boundary Respect: Strictly avoid speaking over or creating disruptions while she is watching her favourite crime shows (such as Judge Judy) or watching the Richmond Tigers football team.
Candidate Requirements
- Gender: Female (Genuine occupational requirement due to intimate personal care needs).
- Qualifications: Certified training and proven experience in safe Manual Handling (specifically hoist usage).
- Certified training or clear experience in Medication Administration.
- Core Competencies:
- Excellent verbal communication and active listening skills.
- Ability to strictly follow and maintain care schedules without rushing the client.
- A positive, patient, and deeply respectful attitude toward a client's private home space.
Pay: $26.44 – $52.56 per hour
