Finding better ways™ to move our people forward.
Start your career as an Intern HSE at Gove in the Northern Territory, where you’ll gain experience at a site transitioning through closure and long term rehabilitation. We’re looking for penultimate year or 2nd or 3rd year students studying a minimum bachelors degree in Health Science, Environment, Occupational or Industrial Hygiene or other related disciplines who want exposure to a different phase of the asset lifecycle and the opportunity to contribute to meaningful work during this transition. At Gove, you may work on a FIFO basis from Brisbane, Cairns or Darwin, or in a residential role, supporting activities that focus on safety, asset management, closure planning and rehabilitation. This is a chance to work alongside experienced professionals, understand how large industrial sites are responsibly closed, and build skills that are highly transferable across mining, processing and infrastructure environments.
About the program
Our Intern Program offers you the chance to help shape Rio Tinto from within. The 12-week Summer Internship Program provides hands-on experience, with the potential to secure a graduate position upon completion.

Where you will be working
Our Gove site in Australia’s Northern Territory has been supplying the global aluminium industry with world-class bauxite for more than 40 years.
Gove bauxite is shipped internationally as well as domestically to supply Queensland Alumina Limited and Yarwun refineries in Gladstone, Queensland. These refineries produce alumina as feedstock for our Australian aluminium smelting operations and for sale on the international market.
We expect our bauxite mining operations in the Gove Peninsula will cease later this decade and we are doing significant work to support closure of the operation.
Eligibility
Intern Program – penultimate year or students in 2nd or 3rd year
Have the right to work in Australia or New Zealand (citizens, permanent residents, student or postgraduate work visa holders)
