The successful candidate will be trusted with the operational performance of the farm, steering the herd’s productivity, and maintaining a high-standard facility. Key responsibilities include:
● Herd Health & Biosecurity Protocols: Leading the daily monitoring of livestock condition; identifying, diagnosing, and treating sick animals; implementing preventative health programs and working closely with local vets to maintain low somatic cell counts and high overall herd health.
● Milking Operations & Quality Assurance: Overseeing morning and afternoon milking schedules; maintaining strict sanitization protocols across all dairy systems and holding tanks to consistently meet premium-grade processing standards.
● Pasture Allocation & Nutritional Programming: Designing and executing the farm's rotational grazing plans across the property; calculating feed budgets, organizing silage or hay distributions, and adjusting supplementary ration formulas to maintain peak milk solids production.
● Breeding & Reproductive Performance: Managing the artificial insemination (AI) schedules, tracking heat detection data, and coordinating calving windows to ensure a consistent, year-round production cycle.
● Data Management & Farm Reporting: Maintaining comprehensive digital records of individual cow yields, health histories, and lineage; tracking farm inputs and providing operational updates to assist with commercial decision-making.
● Property & Machinery Upkeep: Conducting and scheduling maintenance on crucial farm infrastructure, including automatic electronic gates, dairy plant wash systems, fencing grids, and water supply lines.
● Team Leadership & Safety Compliance: Organizing daily task schedules for general farm hands and milkers, ensuring everyone operates under strict Work Health and Safety (WHS) guidelines on the property.
Selection Criteria
● A relevant degree in Agriculture or Animal Science, OR a solid, proven track record of 5+ years in a senior/managerial dairy role.
● Deep practical knowledge of modern pasture-based dairy operations and computerized herd management tracking software.
● Demonstrated experience handling automated dairy systems and basic farm machinery troubleshooting.
● Strong leadership and communication skills to drive performance in a collaborative farm setting.
