Liar Liar is looking for an experienced, professional Section Waiter to join our growing front-of-house team in Braeside.
Liar Liar is a high-energy Japanese restaurant and late-night venue offering premium sushi, modern Japanese dishes, cocktails, sake and entertainment. We're looking for someone who understands that great service is about more than taking an order — it's about owning your section, reading the room and creating an exceptional guest experience from arrival through to departure.
THE ROLE
As a Section Waiter, you will take full responsibility for your allocated section and ensure every table receives attentive, confident and professional service.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing your own section confidently during busy services
- Greeting guests and building genuine rapport
- Introducing the Liar Liar concept and guiding guests through the menu
- Taking accurate food and beverage orders
- Understanding course structure and controlling the pace of the meal
- Providing strong knowledge of Japanese food, sushi, sake, wine and cocktails
- Making recommendations and confidently upselling
- Anticipating guest needs rather than waiting to be asked
- Maintaining clean, organised and properly set tables throughout service
- Communicating effectively with the kitchen, bar, runners, hosts and management
- Running food and drinks and supporting the wider team when required
- Managing bills and ensuring tables are correctly settled
- Maintaining Liar Liar's service standards throughout high-volume services
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
This is not an entry-level waiter position.
We're looking for someone with previous experience managing their own section in a quality, fast-paced restaurant.
You should be:
- Confident managing multiple tables independently
- Professional, polished and well presented
- Warm, engaging and comfortable speaking with guests
- Fast and organised without appearing rushed
- Strong at reading tables and anticipating what guests need
- Comfortable recommending and selling food and beverages
- Experienced with POS systems and restaurant service procedures
- Reliable and punctual
- A genuine team player
- Calm and solutions-focused under pressure
- Available Friday and Saturday nights
Experience in Japanese restaurants, premium casual dining, high-volume restaurants or elevated hospitality venues will be highly regarded.
Knowledge of sushi, sake and Japanese cuisine is an advantage, but we can provide further training to the right experienced hospitality professional.
