Kookai’z Cafe is a well-established local café on Christmas Island, serving both residents and visitors. The café offers dine-in and takeaway services and is known for its relaxed atmosphere, consistent food quality, and customer-focused service.
Position Description
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Café Manager to oversee the daily operations of Kookai’z Cafe. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing staff, maintaining service standards, coordinating front-of-house operations, and ensuring the café operates efficiently, profitably, and in compliance with all relevant regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organise and manage the day-to-day operations of the café
- Supervise, train and roster front-of-house and café staff
- Ensure high standards of customer service and handle customer enquiries or complaints professionally
- Monitor stock levels, order supplies, and manage inventory
- Manage cash handling, POS systems, and daily financial reconciliation
- Implement operational procedures to improve efficiency and service quality
- Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety, food safety, and hygiene standards
- Coordinate with kitchen staff to ensure smooth service delivery
- Assist with marketing initiatives and customer engagement where required
Required Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in a café or hospitality management role
- Strong leadership, communication, and staff management skills
- Sound knowledge of café operations, customer service, and hospitality standards
- Ability to work independently and manage operations in a regional location
- Good organisational and problem-solving skills
Qualifications / Experience Requirements (one of the following):
- Diploma of Hospitality Management (or equivalent) plus at least 1 year of relevant work experience; or
- At least 3 years of relevant full-time work experience in café or hospitality management
