Primary objective
Provide high level advice and support in the development, management and maintenance of client agency Business Intelligence
systems.
Context statement
Digital Project Services (DPS) delivers complex, high-value ICT and digital transformation programs for government agencies,
supporting critical frontline services through a collaborative approach. The Education Management Transformation Program
(EMTP) is a major initiative aimed to streamline Department of Education systems, improve data quality and visibility of student
journeys through the implementation of a new student-centric system. The Business Intelligence function sits within Data Services
and more broadly, the Department of Corporate and Digital Development, Digital Services team. It comprises a number of smaller
teams that support different government agencies
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide advice and support in the delivery of Business Intelligence solutions.
2. Design, develop and maintain business intelligence semantic layers and database views.
3. Provide professional guidance, mentoring and advice to users of business intelligence systems.
4. Analysis and design, including providing user requirements and technical specifications to ensure implementation and
maintenance of semantic layers that meet future reporting requirements of agencies.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Extensive experience in the design, development and maintenance of Business Intelligence semantic layers (eg SAP Business
Objects Universes, Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services).
2. Extensive development experience using Enterprise Business Intelligence platforms (eg SAP Business Intelligence, Microsoft
PowerBI, Tableau) and Structured Query Language (SQL).
3. Proven high-level ability to effectively manage multiple complex projects, create innovative solutions, evaluate options, achieve
successful outcomes within agreed timeframes and provide appropriate advice to senior management.
4. High-level conceptual and analytical skills and the ability to resolve complex problems using innovative solutions.
5. Highly developed written, oral and interpersonal skills and the ability to consult, collaborate and negotiate effectively and
strategically with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
6. Proven ability to manage a high workload with changing priorities, work independently under limited direction and coordinate
work to meet critical timelines.
7. Demonstrated work ethic and attitude which emulates DCDD values of commitment to Services, Innovation, Ethical
Practice, Accountability, Impartiality, Diversity and Respect.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Data Science or a related field.
2. Experience with any of the following technologies: SAP Business Objects, Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft
SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS).
