Western Plains Correctional Centre is a modern, maximum-security prison focussed on rehabilitation, housing up to 1248 people in custody. Western Plains features multi-purpose infrastructure which is adaptable to the evolving needs of Corrections Victoria and the people in our care. Modern amenities include medical wards, a cultural centre, and vocational training facilities.
Western Plains provides a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to individualised care which motivates, encourages and promotes reintegration into the community. What you will do
As diversity officer, you will support people in care from diverse backgrounds and help them access the services they need.
You will promote inclusion, support rehabilitation and help build respectful practices across the correctional centre.
You will:
- provide direct support and advocacy for people from diverse cultural, faith and LGBTIQ+ communities
- coordinate responsive programs, services, events and resources that meet individual needs
- support case managers with practical advice on diversity-related matters and case planning
- deliver specialist training that helps create a respectful and inclusive environment
- build strong working relationships with community groups and contribute to policies that improve support for people in care.
About you
Relevant training, certification or a qualification is desirable. Experience supporting diverse communities in rehabilitation or social services will be highly regarded.
You should also have:
- proven experience working with multicultural, multi-faith and LGBTIQ+ communities
- strong understanding of the needs of diverse and marginalised people and available support services
- clear communication skills and the ability to build respectful relationships with others
- sound problem-solving skills and a commitment to inclusive and fair services.
