Baker / Pastry Chef / Bakery Assistant

Café Chérie is looking for a reliable and hands-on Baker, Pastry Chef or experienced Bakery Assistant to join our bakery production team in Pinjarra.
This role will assist with our regular bakery production and weekend bakes. Weekend availability is essential, although weekend shifts may form part of a rotating roster depending on the needs of the bakery.
We’re open to different levels of bakery experience. Previous bakery or pastry experience is highly regarded, but not essential. However, previous experience working in a commercial kitchen is required.
The Role
Our bakery operates early, with shifts generally running from approximately 3:30 am to 1:30 pm.
The position is currently expected to offer approximately 20 hours per week, with hours and rostered days dependent on production requirements.
You will need to be comfortable and capable of working independently, including completing production and baking duties without direct supervision when required.
Daily duties may include:
- Baking croissants, danishes and quiches
- Preparing and packing café and customer orders
- Loading the prover and preparing products for the following day's bake
- Making and handling croissant and quiche doughs
- Quiche preparation, including lining tins and preparing fillings
- Preparing and finishing bakery items such as almond croissants, French toast and crème brûlée
- Assisting with general bakery production
- Following recipes, production lists and quality standards
- Completing daily kitchen cleaning and maintaining a clean, organised workspace
What We're Looking For
The right person will:
- Be reliable and punctual, particularly with early-morning starts
- Have strong communication skills
- Be comfortable and capable of working alone
- Have previous commercial kitchen experience
- Have bakery or pastry experience preferably, although this is not essential
- Be physically fit and capable of making, lifting and handling heavy doughs
- Have excellent attention to detail
- Have good problem-solving skills and be able to think independently
- Work efficiently and maintain consistent quality
- Be organised and able to follow a production schedule
- Be available to work weekends as required, potentially as part of a rotating weekend roster
