The Opportunity
Unwanted FC is opening its first studio + retail space in Sydney.
We’re looking for skilled Upcycling Technicians to work 2–3 days per week, supporting both production and in-store customer experience.
This is a hands-on role for someone who is confident behind a sewing machine, comfortable working independently, and happy engaging with customers in a retail environment.
About Unwanted FC
Unwanted FC upcycles post-consumer sportswear into new, functional products - including tote bags, boot bags, hats and more.
Since 2018, we’ve worked with clubs, players and fans to extend the life of garments that would otherwise go to waste. Every piece we create is one-of-one.
Our new Sydney studio will act as a production space and a customer drop-off/collection point + retail experience.
What you'll do
- Produce upcycled products to a high standard (including bags, accessories, wearables)
- Work with sportswear materials and inner lining & interfacing
- Assist customers dropping off garments and explain our processes
- Manage the shopfront during shifts (basic sales, questions, general upkeep of space)
- Work independently on assigned production tasks
- Maintain a clean, organised workspace and studio
What We’re Looking For
- Strong sewing skills (industrial machine experience preferred)
- Experience with garment construction, alterations, or textile work
- An interest in upcycling, sustainability, or circular fashion
- Comfortable working both independently and in a customer-facing environment
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and takes pride in their work
Nice to Have (Not Essential)
- Experience in retail or customer service
- Ability to also work from home on production (own sewing machine)
- Interest in sport (we mainly operate on soccer, rugby, AFL and cricket shirts)
